Round Number 27!

Wow! I am now really on my late 20's.  27 feels heavy too.  The number rings the loudest clang! clang! to my ears.  Like a huge coin going down a tin can.  But I believe 27 is that corner where the blind curve lies.  Its that sweet spot of aging where you know it in your gut that teenage drama is just not that cute anymore and swooning is for nut-jobs.  Ha! Christian Grey?  Really now?  I mean, come on! But I digress.  Growing up doesnt make things lighter, doesnt make you any more optimistic nor does it make you instantly omnificent.

Hitting 27, and hopefully higher numbers in the future, made me feel the ground, the breeze, smell the scent of rotting leaves, the musky 4 o' clock afternoons, the bitter taste of sour graping, the strange tang of happy thoughts.  Sensitive is the word.

The day before my birthday, just the afternoon before this post, I wore last years birthday dress.  What once was a perfect fit is now too snug for comfort.  Pfft!  That is one aspect that has obviously progressed over the past year besides my age.  Nonetheless, a sign of progress, I guess. ;)

One thing is certain to come, time to pack up my toys and prep myself up for my life's main event for the current weight division.  I will have yet to qualify though.  Please pray for me.

Toodles! for now.

XOXO,

Birthday girl - Isabeau

Moving My Personals

I've always wanted to give WordPress a spin.  My guest-post stint over at Pens and Lens for the I Blog for Bangkok Challenge and some wee bit of submissions over at Instyle Cebu, finally gave me a feel of how WordPress works.  However, I can't just drop Blogger and jump boat.  This would still be The ViXeN's LaiR's home.  As much as I'd love to maintain just one blog for everything I want to say, I also wouldn't want to bother you with my personal jibberjabbers.

This blog will now be solely dedicated to the Beauty and Fashion niche.

Meet Me on a Monday 06

Not supposed to be blogging and get distracted (prelim exams!) but I can't help it!  Kicking my Monday blues habit!  I know a lot has happened over the weekend and the past month (omg! a month of no updates!) but I assure you they will have space in my blog soon.  ;)

My personal blog is now online at http://isabeaujanegomez.damnvixen.com; it's on a google site platform.  Im contemplating on transferring  it to wordpress.  What do you think?  Having lots on my mind now, not to include the school work and crammings I have been doing and still have to do!

Its hard not to feel ugly and stressed considering the circumstances Im in right now.  Whew!  Nonetheless the Almighty has been very kind to me and my family all through out, we are very much grateful!

Well here goes getting to know me questions!

1.  What is your favorite food?

This is a hard one! LOL  I would say that Im addicted to rice.  I dread the day that I will have to cut rice from my diet.  Thinking about it depresses me already!

2.  What color scheme is your bedroom?

Lavender/Lilac!  My mother made it this way.  I do not object to these kind of decisions in the household.  Mom wanted a serene and relaxing atmosphere in our bedrooms.  She was right, I sleep at least 10 hours a day!

3.  Do you carry a donor card?

No.  I applaud those who do!  Im not yet ready to decide on these things, too morbid for me.

4.  In your opinion, is the glass half empty or half full?
Im a very positive and optimistic person.  Bad things happen;  I have learned how to deflect negative energy.  Takes a lot of pep talk to yourself.  Writing helps too!

5.  Vanilla or Chocolate?

No contest here.  I was born with a chocolate addiction!  I love chocolate on my rice!  Champurradoooo!

Toodles!  I will blog again soon!

Meet Me on a Monday 05

Whew! Another Monday passing through.  It is a holiday today thanks to Jose Rizal's 150th birthday celebration.  Who would not love our favorite Pepe?  If he were alive to this day with the same 30 year old good looks, Id trade his lack of height for his sharp wit any time!  Holler back Jose!

Lezz go to the questions, shall we? ^^

1. What feature of the opposite sex do you notice first?

Im a back and shoulders kinda girl.. I like men who look sturdy not necessarily bulky.

2. Do you talk to yourself?

Who doesnt? If you dont then better have yourself checked out! It's healthy!

3. What is your current relationship status?

Single and will stay that way for a few more years! I dont want the unnecessary emotional baggage right now!

4. Do you have a garden?

nothing fancy or landscaped, just hanging orchids and a guava tree! I dont have a green thumb, plants die on my watch.

5. What is your favorite licorice flavor?

I have no idea what this tastes like. But I can eat any flavor of jelly bean!

Music seeps deep into the soul, you should never go with out it.  Keep the rhythms, beats and melodies embedded within you that every time you close your eyes, the sounds become deafening.  The hammering of your heart  isn't the only thing that keeps you alive, it's your humming soul too!

Points I have pondered on:

What does it take to be human?
The world we live in is full of divides. These divisions of race, color, religion, culture, nation etc., do not only separate us physically but they also ensure that we all stay divided. The permanency of these things that keep us light years further apart from our actual distances, depends solely upon how far longer we arrogantly sustain the thought that we are more human, thus more deserving, than others.

The soul.
One of the many things most of us believe in, is the existence of souls. What is the criteria for one to have a soul? Who are soulless creatures and how exactly do we deal with those categorized as such? Pardon the rhetorics, but these are serious thoughts.

That bossy best friend.
Admit it, best friends can ruin your life if you let them get away with it. How Gossip Girl is that?! hahaha I thank God I dont have to compete with any of my friends. Im not the competitive type anyway.  I rarely put border lines on friendship, there are no rules except to just be truthful.

I love the story of this book although Im not much of a fan of how it was written.  First person narrations either capture my attention right away or it just cant keep me interested.  I am big on first impressions.  The sadness of the novel is felt immediately.  Make me cherish my lifelong connections and appreciate how human I am.

Meet Me on a Monday 04

Ahhh the heat is just too much to a point that Im worn out and I havent been doing anything yet!

1.  Crunchy or smooth peanut butter?
Im not really a big fan of peanut butter. Im more of a jam person, blame it on the diaetic gene. Id go for crunchy peanut butter because it's not boring and kinda feels less greasy. My fave brand is Jif dont know if we still have it locally though.

2.  What is your favorite color Rose?

Dark red.  It's mysteriously dark yet exquisitely feminine.  When mixed with the macabre its that enchantment that crawls up the skin.  Dark red roses are captivating arent they?  I love this Alexander Mcqueen shopper bag! This is perfect with my recent lust for Rayban's new wayfarer shades in opaque you-guessed-it dark red!

3.  Do you remove your shoes when you walk into your home?
No. I remove my shoes when I get inside the house and then I just go barefoot. I dont like wearing slippers inside the house too. You should see my feet photo album sometime lol!

4.  What is your favorite season?
Despite the crazy heat, summer would always be my favorite. It's not just the sunny weather or the beach, it's how well lighted my eyes see everything. Every color pops out and you can almost swear on the beauty of creation.

5.  Approximately how many hours a day do you spend blogging?
I would love to run my life in perfect schedule but I just dont have it in me to plan my day minute per minute. Im a whimsical blogger. Let's just say I blog by spurts of inspiration. I love to write so I dont want to ruin my writing leisure by putting timers or something like that.

This is my Monday for me!

Everybody Just Wanna Fall In Love

The royal couple and this royal wedding is testament to how the times have indeed changed.  William and Kate is the perfect affirmation to the fact that people do marry for love and that love need not be a whirlwind romance for it to be worth swooning about.  Oh what many would give to have a love like theirs!

At least mainstream entertainment has momentarily distracted me from too many Romeo and Juliet tragedies and masochist sexual repressions of Edward and Bella.

But please Cupid stay away from me just yet, I have a life to live.  Love isnt exactly in my scheme of things.  Do have that "the one" guy on stand by though! ^^

Ive got plans you know!  Like finish law school and get an "Atty." prefix on my name.

What's Your Choice of Poison?

Boracay Rhum by Tanduay
Where I grow up, alcoholics are normal everyday people.  Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears or Amy Winehouse are not even at par with the likes of what we Filipinos declare as wasted drunkards.  It is no shocking matter to start drinking and liking alcohol at 14.  Heck!  I for one, was served spiked punches when I was 12.
My brother drinks anything!
And just to rub it in some more, even 5 year olds can be sent to the nearest "sari-sari" store to buy for his dad his choice of poison, be it gin-bulag, kwatro kantos, marka demonyo, rhum or just the simple staple pale pilsen.  What can I say?  We're the happiest bunch!
I don't drink that much anymore though.  No more drinking to a point of passing out or throwing up. I've mellowed down to actually having a preference for sweet drinks, be it cocktails or flavored spirits and a lack of appreciation for anything beer or bitter.  I blame this on hangovers, which I never got when I was a teenager, odd really.

I love Gilbey's Premium Strength, Tanduay Ice and Martini Asti.  I especially enjoy conjuring drinks like boracay, mojitos or just plain gin and juice or rhum coke.  You can't really pass out from these not unless you intend to.

Sometimes mixing drinks become time consuming when you just want to chill and get the party started already, I'm glad Tanduay has created a new line of rhum that quite appealing to me and my crowd the least.  If I'm not mistaken this is their first flavored rhum.  I want to try it as soon as it hits Cebu City!  I wonder if its like Kahlua or Bailey's?  I have to personally find out, lucky for me I have lots of idle time.

This is my kind of poison.  A book in hand and a beach as the view while I recline with a cold drink on the side seems pretty much the perfect activity this fine summer.  Oh, do not open The Bar you'll regret it!

Happy summer chillin!

Meet Me on a Monday 02

It's Monday again!  Here's another round of get to know me questions.

1.  Who would be your dream celebrity date?

Pretty much self explanatory but just to oblige, I want to pick his brain.  I'm smitten by and curious for the ruggedly handsome lot.

2.  Do you have any food restrictions?

No food restriction.  However, judging from that recent shot, I ought to ban food altogether!

3.  How much time do you take to get ready in the morning?

Pardon the uneven foundation application.
Im not really a morning person eversince I did a call center stint.  But when I do go out for something of the ordinary like school or the mall, an hour usually is enough for me.  30 minute bath and another 30 minutes for vanity.

4.  Sausage or bacon?

I prefer sausages.  Bacon is too oily.

5.  Do you Google, Bing or Yahoo?

GOOGLE saves lives!  I use it for everything.

Meet Me on a Monday 01

Monday is always a party pooper and for some weird reason I find Im just too lazy and stubborn to do anything on a Monday!  Glad to have found this blogging routine from friend Monettski fit to counteract the blues brought forth by this day.  So here goes!

1.  Crunchy or soft tacos?

- Depends on the level of hunger Im suffering.  The hungrier the easier it should go down on my throat.  Think less than 7 seconds!

2.  Do you scrapbook?

- Only when Im academically compelled to do so.  Only the threat of having to repeat a silly subject can make me do this.  Not that I dont like the craft but Ive long accepted the fact that I have no artistic-crafty gene in me.  It's sad I know!

3.  Do you take any daily medications?

- Not anymore.  I used to take meds for 1 whole year.  I hate medications!

4.  What is your favorite sound?

- Silence!  Strong breeze second and the sound of my evil laugh lol!

5.  Where were you born?

- Born and raised in the island of Cebu, where fine things arent that much of a biggie. ;)

Every Sunday Never Growing Old will post five get to know you  questions that you can copy and paste into your own Monday post and we  can all learn a little more about each and every one of us!!

Goodbye Grade School!

Not so long ago our youngest was just this tiny thing looking up at us with so many questions to ask.

Now the questions become less and less as she seeks out the answers herself.

But we'll never tire of answering each one of them.
May you never be afraid to ask; may you never be bold enough to find out on your own.
